Church Family,

As we begin to turn the corner of the COVID19 pandemic, we are thinking through meeting together in person again. We are not calling it a reopening of the church. The church consists of the people and has never closed. Building use for the 10:45AM service, however, was suspended for a time. We have weathered that storm and see the end in sight. With that in mind, we look forward to gathering in person again for our Sunday service starting on May 24, 2020 at 10:45 AM. There will be no Sunday school class.

Masks/Gloves

  • You are welcome to wear a mask and/or gloves if you feel more comfortable.
  • You are welcome to attend without a mask and/or gloves if you are comfortable.
      • *Update: due to the proclamation of Coconino County that wearing a mask in public is mandated, we are now asking all who can to wear a mask. If you have conditions that limit your ability to wear a mask, then you are welcome to not wear a mask.
  • If you are showing symptoms, or have recently been in contact with someone with symptoms, please stay home.
  • No one will be shamed for wearing a mask, not wearing a mask, or staying home.

Children

  • Ages 3-5 will meet downstairs during the sermon portion of the service. We will need volunteer teachers in the coming weeks for this group, please reach out to Aaron if you can help in this area. Parents will need to pick their children up after the service.
  • Nursery will be available. We will also need volunteers for this group in the coming weeks, please sign up.
  • Plan to keep children ages 6 and up with you for the duration of the service. You may want to bring along some activities to keep them busy.

Physical Distancing

  • Please only occupy every other pew, keeping just your household family together.
  • There will be no passing of the plate for offering, but a box will be available in the back for giving.
  • No coffee cart or donuts will be served at this time. Feel free to bring your own coffee in a spill proof cup.
  • No water fountain use will be available at this time. Please bring a water bottle for yourself/your children.
  • There will be a special social distancing section for those who are most vulnerable, along with a separate door for entry and exit. This section will be located at the front left of the sanctuary (on the parking lot side). The access point will be the ramp coming up to the front left of the sanctuary.
  • Restrooms will be open for use.

Sanitation

  • As always, our janitorial staff will sanitize all surfaces.
  • Greeters will wear gloves to pass out bulletins.
  • Doors will be left open ensuring less surfaces to touch.

We consider this Phase 1 of returning together. Thank you for abiding by these safety measures. We look forward to seeing you all face to face this Sunday!

In Christ,

Aaron Hulbert & CBC leadership team

BIBLE STUDY

Calvary Bible is a church where we love to study
the Word of God. We believe that God’s will, plan and purpose are revealed in His Word.

FELLOWSHIP

The Bible advises us to continue in fellowship with other believers. There is a reason for that! It edifies us, keeps us accountable, makes us more transparent and unplugs us from what can become secluded, self-centered lives. We learn to share, invite-in, commune and interact with other believers.

GENEROSITY

We are givers at heart and we model that in our lives. We do not feel our specific church is called to create a mega-church with lots of buildings and facilities. We believe in giving so that we are better able to give back. A healthy community is ripe to hear God’s Word. We invite our church body to give to any of our local missions or sponsored missionaries on a regular basis, as well as to the mission of this local church through supporting staff and building needs. You can access the Calvary giving page by clicking here.

GROWTH

If you attend Calvary Bible Church and there is no spiritual growth in your life, then we invite you to ask the question, “why?” We would love to walk with you as you seek that answer. It is so important to us that you take away real life application, not just spiritually, but for your family, finances and all areas of your life. God is our source of joy, and our deliverer.

WHAT TO EXPECT

It can be intimidating to walk into a church for the first time. Whether you’ve attended church before, or this is all new for you, we are glad you’re here and hope you feel welcome!
A typical Sunday at Calvary looks like this:

9:30 AM Adult Sunday School takes place in the Fellowship Hall. Kids meet downstairs with an amazing Sunday School teacher. Coffee and tea are available in the kitchen. This time is used to dive deeper into the academic side of Scripture. The Bible is a historical book rich with details about events which took place thousands of years ago. All are welcome to attend Sunday School, the current study is about how to study your Bible.

10:45 AM Worship Service begins in the sanctuary. As humans, there is an innate desire to worship deep within our souls. Whether we worship money, success, family, security, fame, respect, or any number of other idols, our hearts are designed to seek to worship. As believers, we are called to worship the one true God. Worship happens through song, prayer, giving, and interacting with God. This service is focused on revering God and responding to His goodness. The Bible is preached in a verse by verse format. Songs are sung that remind us who God is and who He has made us to be. An offering is received so the church can continue to operate with staff and building maintenance, as well as to support missionaries we care for around the world.

CHILDREN are dismissed partway through the service (look for the GREEN slide on the front screen to indicate dismissal). Kids ages 3-11 meet an usher at the back of the sanctuary and are walked downstairs to the Children’s Church classroom. At this time, they learn a Bible story, answer questions about that story, and do a craft or coloring sheet associated with the story. Snacks are served and a game is played. When the weather is nice, kids are supervised outside on the play equipment after the lesson. Safety is a priority for Calvary kids. There is always an usher with eyes on the entry doors to the church building.
Why dismiss kids from the service?
We feel parents need time to nourish their spiritual growth without distraction. Dismissing kids gives parents the opportunity to focus in as well as allows kids to learn a spiritual lesson at their level of understanding. Parents are the spiritual leaders of their children, we hope you take time to ask your child what they learned during Children’s Church and how that applies to the way they live their lives.

There is no such thing as a perfect church. We are all human. We are all completely dependent on a Savior, Jesus Christ. Churches are flawed and sometimes messy. No single church meets the needs and expectations of everyone who attends. However, there is an indescribable richness to coming together with fellow believers and choosing to look past differences in style or opinions and, instead, worship a good and holy God with unity and love for each other. We all need community. You are invited to join us here, in the Calvary Bible Church community of believers. Talk to someone at the service, or fill out a connection card to find out how to become more plugged in.
